  How to recognise adjectives

If we want to be sure that the word we're looking at is an adjective, we can try asking two questions. The answer to one of these questions gives us our adjective. The questions are:
  • Which one?
  • What kind?
Let's try asking these questions about some words to check that they are adjectives.

This is a blue hat.
Which hat is it? The blue one.

This is a bowler hat.
What kind of hat is it? It's a bowler hat.
The answers to our questions have given us our adjectives, "blue" and "bowler".
There are a few things we need to know about adjectives, like where they go in a sentence and what order to put them in if there is more than one. We'll have a look at these things next.
